Appraisals

Insurance appraisals from our In-House Certified Gemologist Appraisers.

Jewelry Appraisals

To begin a jewelry appraisal, a full physical description of the piece, including metal type and weight, gemstone identification, carat weights, dimensions, color, clarity, cut, and origin is completed. Then, a replacement value is calculated against current market conditions. The piece is photographed, and the formal record an insurer will require to schedule the piece against your policy is created.

Insurance Scheduling:

Most insurers require a current appraisal — typically within five years — to schedule a piece on a homeowner's or jewelry-specific policy.

The Same Eye

For each piece of jewelry we create, the appraisal is not a guess.

Everything was documented the day it was created, including a record of the gemstone we sourced, the metal we cast and the bench that set it.

When a piece of fine jewelry was purchased elsewhere, we can most often appraise that too, with the same rigor. Vintage and antique pieces are the one exception — their value rests on provenance and period, a specialty we leave to those who practice it. Our appraisals are reserved for contemporary fine jewelry.

All appraisals are completed and signed by a Pieter Andries Certified Gemologist Appraiser — a credential earned through examination beyond the standard Certified Gemologist title and recertified annually.

THE PROCESS

From Intake to Appraisal

01

Intake

Appraisals are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call the showroom. If you’re calling about an existing Pieter Andries piece, we confirm identification against our own records.

02

Documentation

Documentation includes a record of materials, gemstone specifications, dimensions, and condition. Replacement value calculated against current market.

03

Appraisal Issued

Finally, the formal appraisal — on Pieter Andries letterhead, signed and dated — is ready to submit to your insurer.
